CLASSES

Classes are created with thoughtful consideration given to the principles of visual organization in art and design. These guiding principles also relate to life. Participants gain insight and awareness through direct experience and situational context from within a comfortable environment. These classes offer a solid experiential grounding for all students. Brigid O’Kane’s teachings come from her hard-won experiences in the automotive industry, academia, and in life. Many benefit from her authentic and trustworthy wisdom.

Drawing as Mindfulness

Mondays from 7-9:00p – Manifest Drawing Center – $200 for 8-week session – Advanced registration is required. Class size limit is 15.

Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other practices.

Research studies have indicated that the practice of mindfulness is strongly correlated with many benefits including improved health, a calmer mind, stress relief, more restful sleep and a greater sense of wellbeing.

Drawing is similar to mediation, in that it requires focused attention on subject matter being drawn. The drawing process is just as important as the drawing being created, and in this course process is emphasized within the present moment.

Experiencing art in person offers us an opportunity to engage in the process of seeing on a deep level. When viewing art, we interact with what is before us in our unique way as an individual. We translate this exchange to find meaning or purpose. Through this process we learn not only about the art, but also about the artist and ourselves.

Perhaps you are not sure how to view art work on display in a gallery or museum. There are many people who feel nervous or uncomfortable about entering these wonderful places. These sanctuaries of creative culture add value to the community, both local and global, and are vibrant representatives of the art world. Many people know art is important, but may not understand why. You are not alone.

Galleries and museums are primary locations where the uniqueness of an artist’s work can be encountered. When we invest the time to take in an exhibition or single work of art, the art surrenders its meaning and energy, and affects us with persuasive powers. To realize this shift, we must seriously contemplate these works in solitude over time.
